The “Healthy Chef Competition” is a Vancouver, BC competition and gala food event that's been taking place for 18 years! Each year, 8 to 10 restaurants, culinary schools and the like, are invited to create amazing entrées and desserts keeping fresh produce as the star of the plate. As one of the 450 plus guests, your mystery envelope reveals your entrée and dessert - and it won't be what the person sitting next to you is enjoying. BCPMA - BUY TICKETS HERE!
WHEN: Wednesday, March 22, 2017 WHERE: Hyatt Regency, 655 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC
WHAT: Prior to service, BC Chef and guest judges, evaluate each entrée and dessert based on a point system, including the creative use of five (5) or more produce items, taste and plate presentation for a chance at the trophies: Best Entrée Healthy Plate Award, Best Dessert and new this year, Child's Entree. The “People’s Choice” is decided by the audience. Best Table Award is selected by food and event bloggers.

The panel of judges are still being selected, but in the past have included the likes of:
Michael Pinter Executive Chef, Director, BC Chefs’ Association Thomas Dietzel, BC Chefs’ Association Ulrich Pohl, Pastry Chef, Pohl’s Bakery & Pastry Ltd.
The overall competition is sanctioned and produced by the BCPMA and the British Columbia Chefs’ Association.
The formal judging is undertaken by chefs from the BCCA. In addition, the BCPMA contributes upwards of $7,000.00 to the BC Chefs' Association Annual Scholarship foundation.
WHY: 1) To show consumers how easy it is to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into their meal planning 2) To challenge the talent of local rising and established chefs in Vancouver 2) To raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society. 3) To present monies to the BC Chefs Junior Scholarship Fund. 4) To connect food service to grocery retail in a unique fashion - so often what happens on a chef's plate translates to what shoppers go seeking in their fresh produce department.
